Morro: "Still In Our Hands"

Posted on: Mon 14 Apr 2008

Michael Morrison admitted Saturday's 2-1 defeat to already-relegated Stafford Rangers fell far short of expectations but feels the U's can still decide their own play-off destiny.

Teams around us in the play-off places play games in hand this week but Morrison feels United can still decide their own after in the final three games.

Ben Farrell gave United an early lead for the second successive Saturday but Neil Grayson equalised three minutes later after a swift counterattacking move and midway through the second half Nathan Smith burst through to give his side the win.

"I think the first goal was a bit lucky," commented Morrison. "They didn't mean to pass it to Draper and the experience of Grayson was always going to be a threat and he showed why.

"People were saying it could have been offside, but although he looked to have come from an offside position, when it was played it went backwards to him. Whether offside or not it took the sting out of our play and as they shut up shop it became difficult for us to break it down.

"But there's no excuses the fans know like all of us do that today wasn't good enough and we now have to put things right starting at Salisbury."

Ending on a positive note, Morro added, "With the other results going for us it could have set us up to nail on a play-off place. But we've done everything the hard way this season so we'll carry that on and go out to win the next three games, although even seven points from them may well be enough.

"I think the only positive thing to come out of today is that our fate is still in our hands."
