"Fans Deserve League Football" Says Pitt
Although Mark Beesley takes the headlines with his two goals in Tuesday's 2-1 win at Rushden & Diamonds, winger Courtney Pitt caused problems throughout with his pace and crosses and he set up Beesley's second goal with a good run and pinpoint cross to the striker's feet.
Speaking after the win that ensured United held on to third place and opened up a five point cushion over sixth-placed Exeter, Courtney began by thanking the 1,176 United fans for their support.
"Firstly all the lads want to praise the support tonight. We could say this every game but tonight was special - we had almost half the crowd and at a big club in this league in Rushden that's brilliant.
"Attacking our end in the second half it helped no end, because the vocal backing can't help but spur you on. It was like being in a proper football match and that's no disrespect to the likes of Droylsden," he added.
On the game itself he reflected, "We started well and that was important because they are a decent side. We had to weather some pressure before half time, but on the second half performance I thought we were well worth the win.
"Mark took the goals well and was really close to his hat-trick. I think he's beginning to show the fans just what we know he can do for us. It takes time to bed in with a new club and with his last few performances it shows he's done that and that can only help us on the run in.
"As a team we want to go the rest of the season unbeaten and the last two games have laid the foundations for us to do that. When we hit the play-offs, we want to hit them in good form and the experienced lads like me will do everything to help the young lads through the big games."
He concluded, "We've got the squad here to deliver league football back to fans that deserve it, because tonight they showed they are definitely league standard."
