Danny Starts At Droylsden

Posted on: Thu 03 Apr 2008

Jimmy Quinn has revealed that Cambridge United captain Danny Brown will return to the starting line-up at Droylsden on Saturday.

It will be the midfielder's first start since last January when he played in the 5-0 demolition of Saturday's hosts.

That game was only his tenth appearance of the season after he missed almost four months of the season before Christmas and then a further two weeks in January, and his appearance from the bench at Ebbsfleet last Monday was his first since that home win against Droylsden.

Having fought his way back from niggling injuries to both ankles, and with United having dropped from second to fifth in the table after taking just one point from the last four games, the return of the combative midfielder could be well-timed.

"I've been very careful with Danny," revealed Quinn today, as he steps up preparations for Saturday's visit to the Blue Square Premier's bottom club.

"As much as I've wanted to, I haven't stuck him straight back in the team so he's sat on the bench for a couple of games, and I've done that because I want him chomping at the bit when he comes back in.

"He's been fantastic in training, he's my captain and he'll go into the team on Saturday," he confirmed.

"You look at the game and our experienced players last weekend, and the communication wasn't anywhere near what it should have been. Danny will give us that and he absolutely can't wait to play.

"He'll help and encourage and give a bit of confidence to one or two to go out there and play their game, and it's a massive plus for us that Danny's coming back in."

Goalkeeper Danny Potter also returns after serving a one-match suspension, while defender Mark Albrighton completes his two-match automatic suspension this weekend and will be available again for Tuesday's game at Rushden & Diamonds.
