Jack Jeffery's loan from West Ham has been extended by a month.

The Gravesend-born 18-year-old has made four substitute appearances so far, most recently in the defeat at Crawley on Tuesday evening, and after that energetic performance he could be in line for his first start against Weymouth tomorrow.

"I feel a little bit sorry for young Jack Jeffery," manager Jimmy Quinn told cambridgeunited.com. "He's struggled to get more time on the pitch up to now with Lee Boylan scoring all the time and Lee McEvilly's size and presence, but he did very well when he came on at Crawley.

"I'll look at starting him on Saturday because he's a strong lad and he's got a lot of aggression in his play, which is important at any level, and to be honest he showed up one or two of our more experienced players on Tuesday.

"I think he's got a bright future in the game at some level and if he starts a game here and does well then he'll stay in the side. I don't have any favourites."

'JJ' was not the only teenager to impress the manager on Tuesday night and he added, "Robbie Willmott and Jordan Collins also did well when they came on. The three of them went on and expressed themselves and did very well, and they changed the game.

"It shows that it's not about how old you are, it's how good you are and whether you're able to cope. I won't hesitate to play these kids if some of the older players think they've got a place cemented in the team."

Jack's initial one month loan was due to end after Saturday's match.
