Pitt's Painful Penalty
Courtney Pitt had another close contest with Woking's Goma Lambu during Saturday's match as the two speed merchants went head to head on the wing, but the U's man finished on the winning side as Lee Boylan's first half penalty settled a close game.
Indeed it was a Goma challenge on Pitt inside the area that led to the decisive spot kick, and Courtney revealed afterwards that it was a particularly painful challenge.
"Every time I play against Goma Lambu it's a real battle - their manager knows I'm quick and he's quick so we are put against each other. I don't mind that, I like a battle and I think it showed out there.
"For the penalty we both went in together and he caught me in my crown jewels so I immediately had my mind on other things than whether it was in or out of the box or which way the ref had seen it!"
The match was close-fought for long periods and the 26-year-old praised Woking for making it hard for United to entertain the home crowd.
"It would be nice for us to play free flowing football and score lots of goals but Woking adapt themselves well against us and they don't concede a lot of goals," he commented.
"The league position doesn't do them justice because of the games they've drawn, so today wasn't going to be about that. The most important thing is the three points and we are delighted with the win. It's disappointing when you get nothing from a match that you have played well in, so if we continue to produce performances like that week in and week out I will be satisfied.
"The Gaffer wants nine points from this week, starting with this one, so that's three in the bag and we'll be doing everything to deliver against Crawley and then Weymouth."
Striker Lee McEvilly was stretchered off after landing awkwardly following a header midway through the first half, and the injury was later shown to be ruptured ankle ligaments and a small fracture at the base of his fibula [article].
Dedicating the win to his injured team-mate, Courtney concluded, "Lee heard a crack as he went down but hopefully he can get back to playing as soon as possible. All the lads wish him a speedy recovery and this win is for him."
