Gray: "We Deserved Something"
Woking manager Frank Gray was disappointed to see his side lose 1-0 at the Abbey Stadium due to what he regards as a contentious penalty decision.
"It's a disappointing result because we have come here and reduced you to very few chances," he said afterwards.
"The only shot you've had on goal was the penalty, which tells the story of the game, and we deserved something on the balance of play.
"We know it is going to be a big physical battle when we play you and we have to stand up to that pressure. I thought we did that well, restricting you to just about nothing, but at the end of the day we leave with nothing. That can be football at its cruellest - when you are down we are things go against you and Jimmy will have found that last season, as we are now."
Gray illustrated his point by referring to the penalty decision when Goma Lambu brought down Courtney Pitt in the area and Lee Boylan scored from the spot: "I'm not sure that if the penalty was at the other end it would have been given. The referee didn't have the best view and with the linesman positioned on the other side he wasn't going to be much help.
"The referee took some time to give the penalty and I - as I would being Woking manager - didn't think he made the right decision, both players went in feet up and whether it was inside the box also comes into the equation, but if he was so certain it was a foul why wasn't Goma Lambu booked?"
The former Leeds United, Nottingham Forest and Scotland player concluded, "I think the story of the game was summed up by your crowd frantically whistling for the final whistle and that told the story of the game better than I can."
