Courtney Pitt returned to one of his former clubs and was delighted to finish on the winning side as United recorded a fourth straight win and the second 'double' in four days.
The U's beat Oxford 2-1 on TV in our first home game of the season and repeated the feat at the Kassam Stadium on Tuesday evening, just four days after repeating the opening day's win over York City.
Restored to his familiar role on the left after deputising brilliantly for Dan Gleeson on the right against York, Courtney caused problems to Oxford from the first whistle, both as wingback in the first half and winger in the second.
"The boys worked extremely hard," he said afterwards. "This is a hard place to come and we've equipped ourselves really well and we're absolutely delighted with the three points.
"Personally I'm pleased with my performance - the early miss apart, when I took it on my left foot and in hindsight should've used my right - but as long as we got the three points that's all that matters."
Pitt, who received a 'warm' welcome back from sections of the home support, also revealed that he had been handed a specific marking role by Jimmy Quinn: "I got a fair bit of abuse from the home support, which hopefully reflected how well I played. It doesn't bother me - I just play my game and get on with doing my best for the club.
"The gaffer set me a task to rein in Eddie Anaclet who is a dangerous player for them, and I cancelled the threat he posed and gave him a lot of problems going forward."
On the return to form of striker Lee Boylan, who struck his second brace of goals in two games, Courtney added, "Lee's been working really hard in training, especially on his finishing, and I think you saw the results tonight. All the boys are buzzing that he's back in the team and scoring goals.
"You've got to also credit the defence and Danny Potter in particular for the way we held out under some pressure after we took the lead for the second time."
Closing with his and the team's appreciation for the 487 away fans who sang and bounced throughout the game, the 26-year-old explained why the players warmed down in front of them after the final whistle.
"It was a really cold night and there were a lot of people out there who skipped some work hours to travel down and also be up early in the morning to start work again, so we only think it's fair to show our thanks for what was magnificent support - it made it more like a home match out there.
"There aren't any other fans in this league who can come here and do that. It's easy for us all to keep saying thanks through interviews, so it was nice to show our appreciation personally to those who played their part in the win."
