Walker: "We Gave U's Two Goals"
York City manager Colin Walker was left to count the cost of two costly defensive lapses by his side in Saturday's match at the Abbey Stadium.
Lee Boylan pounced on hesitation in the back line just before half-time to score his first goal since mid-December, then turned home Stephen Reed's low cross after a slack pass from York's Onome Sodje to ensure a 2-0 win against th in-form visitors.
Afterwards, Walker admitted, "The result came down to two mistakes. We gave Cambridge two goals and we've done that before, but you can't keep coming back from 2-0 down against good sides like Cambridge and I think we really should have come off that pitch at 0-0. Or if it had been level in the last ten minutes we would have been going for the win.
"You can't really say anything about the mistakes which lead to the goals," he added. "We've talked about it in the dressing room, and at the end of the day individuals make individual decisions.
"You can't legislate for what happened but for the first Darren Craddock could have cleared it and you could say Tom Evans could have come for it. It boils down to the fact that we've made two mistakes, conceded two goals through it, and lost 2-0.
"Looking at the statistics from the game we've had fourteen shots, ten off target, and I thought we were well in the game and I thought we were the better footballing side. But Cambridge had a game plan, they stuck to their game plan and they won.
"We had a game plan and our game plan went out of the window when we made two errors. We should have come in 0-0 and then gone out looking to win the game but we gave them the three points.
"My real disappoint was at 2-0 down near the end and we weren't putting any balls into Cambridge's box, we were still trying to play our so-called football. At the end of the day you win games by getting the ball in the box and clubs from this neck of the woods do that."
