Cambridge United's 50,000 invitations to residents and workers in Histon, Impington and Milton to watch the U's entertain Kidderminster free of charge have been greeted by a flood of applications in the opening week.

10,000 application forms, each entitling up to two adults and three children to free tickets to the match against Kidderminster at the Abbey Stadium on March 29th, were delivered by an army of volunteers last weekend, and hundreds of replies have already been received.

SSI organiser Will Jones enthused, "It's been a very impressive response to the latest leg of the scheme - one of the highest initial reply rates since we stated the South Stand Initiative. The residents and workers of Histon, Impington and Milton are jumping at the chance to experience live, local free football at the Abbey Stadium and I can't wait to welcome them all on the day!"

Tickets are being allocated on a first come, first served basis with 1,400 available in our newest all-seater South Stand. The stand affords magnificent, elevated views of the action and successful applications will be invited to come and enjoy the atmosphere and the fun of live local football on their doorstep.

Will explained, "We have a limited number of tickets we can give away for each SSI match. I think we could fill the Abbey Stadium twice over unless we put a cap on things, and that just goes to show the interest and potential out there for Cambridge United.

"It's important that people return their forms as soon as possible to avoid possible disappointment because if the applications keep coming in at this rate the tickets will be gone in no time."

The club would like to thank Nightingale Press of Royston for their generous sponsorship of the scheme, which marks the seventh leg of a scheme which forms part of a long-term and committed campaign to attract new supporters to the Abbey Stadium.

The match against Kidderminster kicks off at 3pm on Saturday March 29th and forms are available for collection from the Abbey Stadium Ticket Office, Newmarket Road. Only Histon, Impington and Milton residents and workers are eligible to apply. The deadline for applications is Friday 21st March.
