Gavin Hoyte has joined Southern League promotion chasers King's Lynn on loan for the rest of the season, although after the first 28 days of the loan we have the option of recalling him at 24 hours notice.
Hoyte was recalled this week from a similar loan spell at Hinckley United, who are battling relegation from the Blue Square North, and Jimmy Quinn explained why the big defender returned.
"It's a bit disappointing because Hinckley are at the wrong end of their league and their manager told me he wanted to send Gavin back because he didn't think he was playing well enough, although they did make a decision to take him for the rest of the season.
"But Gavin wasn't enjoying it there and he is my player and I don't want him playing there if he's unhappy, so he's come back and we'll look to get him get him fixed up with another club as soon as we can so he can get some games."
21-year-old Hoyte joined Cambridge United last summer from Bedford Town, who were relegated from the Conference South last season. He has made 11 league starts this season but with a number of central defenders at the club and the addition of Wayne Hatswell last month, the loan is to give him more first team experience.
"Gavin scored a couple of goals at Hinckley and I saw him play one game against Gainsborough when he did very well," added Quinn, "but I think the manager is under a bit of pressure and perhaps not seeing things clearly, having a go at the players, and Gavin was one of those.
"Gavin isn't the sort of player you can hammer; you've got to talk to him and explain what you're looking for from him. He's a good lad but he's young and still learning, and he's one of those lads who needs an arm round him from time to time and I don't think he was getting that there.
"If he goes to another club to get some games we'll make sure the manager knows what he's all about and knows how to deal with him properly."
Linnets manager Keith Webb spent over 20 years at Norwich City working as Youth Team Coach, Assistant Academy Director and from 2001 as Reserve Team Manager, before leaving Carrow Road in December 2006 to take over as manager at the Walks.
Gavin scored United's first goal against King's Lynn in the FA Trophy game in December. On Saturday the Linnets are at home to second-placed Halesowen in a promotion showdown.
