Cambridge United have signed West Ham striker Jack Jeffery on a month's loan.
Jimmy Quinn moved quickly this week to boost his attacking options following the departure of Scott Rendell to Peterborough United, and Jeffery will train with his new team-mates today and join the squad to face Forest Green Rovers at the Abbey Stadium tomorrow.
The Gravesend-born 18-year-old was a prolific goalscorer at under-18 level and this season he has been a regular for the Hammers reserves, where one of the other youngsters in the side is the reserve team captain Jack Collison, who joined the East London club from Cambridge United's youth scheme.
In December he had a loan spell at Hampton & Richmond in the Blue Square South to gain further experience of men's football, and he scored two goals before returning to West Ham.
Described by Jimmy Quinn as a hard-working player who reminds him of former Hammers, Everton and England striker Tony Cottee, Jack has yet to feature for the first team at West Ham and his loan with Cambridge United will give him further first team experience while adding another option to the U's squad.
West Ham reserves coach Kevin Keen rates Jack Jeffery as another Hammers youth teamer destined for bigger things, and last month told their official website, "JJ has come back from Hampton & Richmond, where he scored a couple of goals and Alan Devonshire has given me a glowing report.
"He is the sort of lad who will keep working hard and get the best out of what he has got."
With Mark Beesley ineligible to play on Saturday against his former club, and Scott Rendell having signed for Peterborough United, Quinn has two senior strikers available for selection - Lee McEvilly and Lee Boylan - plus teenager Robbie Willmott and now Jack Jeffery.
