Beesley Off The Mark
Mark Beesley got off the mark at Halifax with his first goal for Cambridge United since joining from Forest Green Rovers, coolly lifting the ball into the back of net after Lee McEvilly had forced an error from home keeper Adam Legzdins.
Afterwards he paid tribute to his new team-mate for creating the opening, and gave his thoughts on the ebb and flow of the match.
"Lee did well to harass their defence and when the ball broke to me it was just take a touch and lift it over the last man," he said. "It was an important time to score as we hadn't been on our game until then and to go in 1-1 was a real bonus.
"The second half was something else. The second goal showed our domination and it was a great team goal with nearly everyone involved. I thought we'd then go on and get at least a couple more as we were running the game.
"The sending off put paid to that but I thought the way we reacted showed the quality in this team," Mark added.
"We were under the cosh a bit but the gaffer changed things round with the substitutions and I thought the lads who came on did brilliantly in the way they coped.
"Sometimes when you go down to ten men you become more resilient and go on to win games. We've got good footballers here so when we got the ball we held on to it or used it well, and having Lee chasing everything up front gives us a great outlet to relieve the pressure.
"We held a good line at the back and they didn't really put Danny under too much pressure for all their possession."
Like his team-mates, Mark went to the away end at the final whistle to celebrate with the travelling supporters and he concluded, "The supporters played their part as they always do, and they are one of the reasons I came here.
"When you play in front of fans like that every week it's such a boost, and I'd like to thank every single one of them who made the journey today - they played a major part in the result."
