Alan Lewer To Weymouth

Posted on: Fri 01 Feb 2008

Cambridge United's assistant manager Alan Lewer is joining Weymouth as assistant manager to John Hollins.

Lewer, who joined United as Jimmy Quinn's no. 2 last summer, has worked with Hollins before, most recently at Crawley last season. They are known to be very good friends and Alan also has family ties in that area.

Lewer signed a new two and a half year contract in November along with Quinn, and the two clubs agreed a compensation package earlier today.

Chairman Phil Law commented, "We're obviously disappointed but we feel we can't stand in Alan's way. We thank him for his hard work for Cambridge United and we wish him well for the future."

Jimmy Quinn added, "These things happen in football, but the players we have here are a very professional bunch and this won't have an adverse reaction on the squad.

"The players here who have worked with Alan at previous clubs are all delighted to be at Cambridge United and are very professional, and the fans shouldn't worry about that. They're having a break this weekend and then we'll be fully focused on the game here against Stevenage next weekend."

An announcement about Quinn's new assistant manager will be made in due course.

The transfer deadline is at midnight tonight and we will of course bring you the first news of any further transfers.
