Two Suspended for Three Games
The Cambridge United squad will be without two senior players for the next three matches after Paul Carden and Leo Fortune-West were sent off last night at Histon in the FA Trophy defeat.
Both were dismissed for 'violent conduct' in a mad four minute spell near the end of another tetchy game against Histon. Carden was dismissed for reacting to a high and late tackle in the 86th minute while Fortune-West was shown a straight red for a late challenge four minutes later.
They will be suspended for Saturday's trip to Grays Athletic, and next week's home games against Droylsden on Tuesday 22nd and Altrincham on Saturday 26th.
Manager Jimmy Quinn said last night he was disappointed by the two red cards, saying, "I thought the referee got it wrong on both occasions.
"I don't think they warranted red cards in my opinion, Leo's was just an awkward challenge, and they capped a disappointing day, but you've got to take it on the chin."
Quinn added new midfielder Ben Farrell to the squad yesterday [article] and he hopes to add at least one more new face to the squad before the match at Grays.
"Some new faces would give us a boost and I hope to get a couple in before the weekend," he confirmed.
"We don't look like scoring at the moment, we're not holding the ball up and we need more power and strength up there, but we also need more goals from all over the pitch.
"The lads have done well up to now but we need to work harder and put things right. This is a difficult period and a new face or two would lift everyone."
