Having promised before Saturday's postponed game at Histon that he would return to a more attacking formation, manager Jimmy Quinn has confirmed that he will make changes to the team that went close to a FA Cup upset at Wolves.
Supporters are reminded that tonight's FA Trophy second round tie, which kicks off at 7.45pm, is no longer an all-ticket game and tickets will now be on sale at the turnstiles on the day.
Histon have won their last two games and are the bookie's favourites to win, with United rated as 17/10 outsiders after defeats at Histon in the league and Wolves in the FA Cup, but an attractive 28/1 to come from behind to win - something we've done a few times this season! Team News
Quinn has almost a full squad to choose from, although Mark Peters has an inflamed knee joint and will almost certainly miss out tonight, so the three central defenders who played at Wolves will keep their places.
Having sprung a surprise with a 3-6-1- formation at Wolves, Quinn indicated a return to a system used with success in some games during November and December, with a man 'in the hole' behind two strikers.
"I played that formation at Wolves because we were playing at a Championship side but this is a different game. We want to go out and win and we'll be going back to playing with two forwards, so Lee Boylan will come back in," Quinn confirmed.
"We'll have a look at playing someone in behind them and Mark Convery has been playing very well and he can certainly get in there and cause them problems.
"Rather than go there and worry about what Histon are going to throw at us, let's turn that around and go to try and win the game."
The Opposition
Histon have won their last two games - the New Year's Day match at home to United and their subsequent win at Farsley Celtic - and this is the third meeting between the two sides in three weeks.
After losing to a poorly-defended goal there on New Year's Day, Quinn is keen that his players give a better account of themselves and give the club the best chance of progressing into the last 16 of the competition.
"We were never going to win the FA Cup but the FA Trophy is a different thing and if we can beat Histon we're into the last 16, where anything can happen and you've got a chance of getting to Wembley and winning it," he stated.
"We've drawn Burton in the next round, which is a tough away game for any team, but if you're going to win the competition you need to beat the best teams and we need to go to Histon tonight and beat them.
"They're never an easy team to play against, but we've played them twice and it's Even Stevens at the moment, and it would be nice to come out on top over the three games. There's a bit of local pride at stake and we have to make sure we go there and keep them quiet, and I'll be disappointed if we can't get a good result."
