Yates: "Best Side We've Played"
Kidderminster Harriers boss Mark Yates was generous in victory after seeing his side take all three points with a controversial goal, having been dominated by United for most of the game.
"I've seen the replay and yes the goal could have been given as offside," admitted Yates, "but we've had very little luck over recent weeks and football has a way of evening itself out.
"Cambridge are by far the best side we have played this season by some way. You hear constantly that Cambridge are strong, big, and direct, but tonight showed just what a superb footballing side they are.
"It was very much like last year's game here, a one-nil win and our 'keeper man of the match, and credit to our defence tonight - we stuck at it. We had a bit of luck at the back as well, there were times when we were as amazed as the Cambridge team and their fans were that some chances that didn't go in."
United went into the game on a six-game winning streak, while Kidderminster had lost their last two games, and Yates added, "We like to do things the hard way here and I think tonight proved that. Perhaps we need to play more sides on unbeaten runs because those runs always have to stop!
"We now have to use this as a springboard to start our season, and I'm really pleased not to be playing Cambridge in the Trophy next week because I think Kings Lynn could be on the end of one hell of a backlash.
"If Cambridge continue to perform like that - and I think they are well capable of that - then they will have no problem getting out of this league."
And on the Setanta Shield draw, which gave United a home tie against Rushden & Diamonds on the 22nd December, Yates concluded, "I'm sure Jimmy is as relieved as I am to have avoided each other in the Setanta Shield draw... although perhaps he would have liked a swift return to have another go at us!"
