Lucky Luke gets a surprise visit from Jimmy!

Posted on: Tue 09 Oct 2007

10-year-old lucky Luke Bishop received a very special surprise when U's manager Jimmy Quinn paid him a visit to hand deliver his ticket for the forthcoming SSI match against Salisbury City.

The Cambourne youngster became the 1,000th applicant for the match last week and was thrilled to receive not just his ticket but also a replica top signed by all of the first team players.

The surprise presentation took place live on the Radio Cambridgeshire breakfast show on Friday morning, and Jimmy Quinn told cambridgeunited.com, "Young Luke and his family seemed over the moon with his tickets and the shirt signed by the lads.

"This is what we are about at Cambridge United. We are trying to build something special here, on and off the pitch. The fans have played a massive part in our terrific start to the season, so it will be great to see that South Stand full of new faces again when we take on Salisbury."

All workers and residents of Cambourne and the Abbey Ward were invited to attend the Salisbury City match on 20th October free of charge, as part of the clubs successful 'South Stand Initiative' to introduce local people to Cambridge United.

As reported last week, the match is now fully subscribed, with every one of the 1,700 free tickets available on the scheme having been issued.

However, the match is not all ticket and supporters can turn up as usual to pay on the day for the Main Stand, Habbin Stand, and Newmarket Road end. With the U's having enjoyed the best start they have ever made to a campaign and riding high in the Blue Square Premier League, a massive crowd is expected for the match so early arrival at the ground is already being advised for this fixture.

The final batch of tickets were dispatched last week to successful applicants in Cambourne and the Abbey Ward and no new applications are being accepted. Due to the current postal strike we ask that all applicants remain patient all unsuccessful applicants will also be contacted.

Cambridge Fans United and the club would like to thank Nightingale Press of Royston for their continued and generous sponsorship of the scheme
