Harvey: "We had To Work Hard For It"

Posted on: Mon 01 Oct 2007

Forest Green Rovers ended Cambridge United's 12-game unbeaten record with their 3-0 win on Saturday, and afterwards victorious manager Jim Harvey commented, "I was very happy with the performance against a very strong Cambridge side who this year have had great results and were unbeaten at the start of the game.

"We've had a good game but we were made to work hard for it, there's no doubt about that. We were a bit disappointed with the goal at the end but in the last few moments Cambridge were, for want of a better word, resorting to 'cheating' as they threw men forward into our box, but they have a lot of big boys and any cross into the box and they'll be trying to get on the end of it.

"To concede in the fourth minute of injury time left me a bit disappointed for the players but we won't dwell on that too long because the rest of the game was excellent. Maybe we should have had at least another one or two goals as we went into the last ten minutes as Cambridge chased it and left themselves open. If we had more control and composure we might have completely finished them off.

Jim Harvey"But other than that we are delighted with the week; Cambridge and Stevenage at home, six points and seven goals for the wee club that we are.

"The boys have come up with two great results and kept us in touch, which is where we need to be at this moment.

"Jimmy and Cambridge will take the defeat today on board and I'd expect them to become stronger as a team by it."
