Peters & Potter On Draw

Posted on: Mon 27 Aug 2007

Mark Peters made his first start of the season in the 0-0 draw at Woking, replacing virus victim Gavin Hoyte, and declared himself pleased to have played his part in keeping the first clean sheet of the season.

"It was very hot out there but it was the same for both teams and I thought we dealt with it well. I'm pleased to have played the full 90 minutes," he added.

"Gavin Hoyte's had this illness during the week and it's nice that the gaffer has the option and trust to put me into a strong side, and we come out of the game with a clean sheet and a battling performance. We certainly created more chances than Woking and I can't remember Danny (Potter) having to make a save.

"From our point of view the point today was a good result. As for the 100% record, it was always going to go at some point but the main thing we can take from today is that we were the better team and we looked like we were going to score goals.

"The first clean sheet was pleasing. It's something we've worked on with this system and it's not just the back three, it's the whole team, so fair play to them even up to big Leo. He's defending from the front and that's good news for us."

Goalkeeper Danny Potter was especially pleased with the clean sheet, saying, "The first three games of the season we've come away with incredible results and in the fourth we've come away with a point from an incredibly hard-working and physical Woking team. So to get a point here, and importantly for me, record a clean sheet is fantastic.

"We worked hard all across the pitch and it was extremely hot for the lads as well. You work in training all week and if the weather is warm you can prepare. It's been cold and wet so the change today meant that it was difficult to acclimatise but we adapted well enough."

Potter also echoed Jimmy Quinn's comment that the players were disappointed with just one point, and explained, "The mood in the dressing room is of disappointment with just a draw to be honest. We haven't been battered or held on for a draw, we had the chances to win the game, but I think on reflection to be going home four games unbeaten with ten points we should be happy.

Danny Potter celebrates with the supporters

"It will be a similar type of game against Ebbsfleet on Monday; they will come to us and be big, strong and will work hard. They have a similar set up to what Dagenham had last season. We are the home side so we will going out to take the game to them and to get the three points - that's the attitude amongst the team.

"We want to win every game and we have the confidence and ability to do that."

United's next match is at home to Ebbsfleet United on Monday (3pm).
