Quinn: "Unlucky Not To Win"

Posted on: Wed 25 Jul 2007

Jimmy Quinn saw his side put up a good performance against Championship side Colchester United on Tuesday evening. Lee Boylan put the U's ahead on nine minutes and United dominated for spells, although Danny Potter had to make a number of smart saves to preserve the lead.

Youngster Anthony Wordsworth levelled for the visitors ten minutes from time and Scott Rendell had a header ruled out for offside in the closing minutes of an entertaining game.

"It was a terrific work out," commented Quinn. "I think we have some decent players and we didn't look out of place against a team from three divisions above us so I'm delighted."

Quinn was also pleased to see summer signing Lee Boylan crack home a superb volley to give United the early lead: "He's a goalscorer and a bit of a 'sniffer'. Anything around the box, he's got a great strike with both feet.

"I don't think the keeper even saw that one, and that will give Lee a great deal of confidence.

"I think we were unlucky not to win the game," he added. "Scott Rendell's header was perfectly onside for me from where I was standing, and Willy Wordsworth was standing level with it and he said it was definitely onside and the linesman fell asleep.

"When you make so many changes it's always going to affect your shape a little bit but I thought the lads that went on did very well.

"Luke McShane in goal didn't look out of place, little Michael Hyem (pictued below) is going to be some player and he just needs that valuable experience that he'll gain over the next few years, and I think we have a good blend of youth and experience."
