There will be a minute's silence before tonight's match against Colchester United, in memory of Dave Simmons, Doug Millard and David Preece.

Tonight's match is sponsored in memory of former player Dave Simmons, for whom a tribute has already been published on this website (click here). A big, bustling centre forward, Dave played for both of tonight's teams; for Colchester United between 1971 and 1973, and for Cambridge United in two spells between 1973 and 1976. He died last month at the age of 58 after a long battle against cancer.

We also had the sad news of the death of Doug Millard in June, at the age of 82. Doug was a keen U's fan and worked as a steward at the club for over 25 years, and his son and grandson are both stewards.

Finally, last Friday came the news that former player and assistant manager David Preece had died after a short illness at the age of 44. David joined the club as a player in 1996, becoming no.2 to Roy McFarland and moving on to join McFarland at Torquay United in 2001. Click here to read more.

Our thoughts are with all three families and there will be a minute's silence before kick-off tonight.
