Date:
21/02/2012
Venue:
R Costings Abbey Stadium
Attendance:
1,118
Referee:

FULL TIME: Cambridge United 1-0 Guiseley AFC

21.40: Drench up again as Guiseley have a free kick wide on the right. In it comes but Naisbitt gets a good punch on the ball and that's full time. United into the FA Trophy quarter-finals, but were made to work very hard for their place by a talented Guiseley side.

21.39: Crikey, Shaw again with a flying block to stop Forrest's shot after he found space on the left of the U's box. Guiseley corner, keeper Drench comes up but Naisbitt makes his initial punch then clutches the rebound as it floats back in.

21.36: Four minutes to be added, four minutes too many if you ask me.

21.29: Final change for the U's, Jackson being replaced by Jonathon Thorpe. Decent home debut from Jackson, showed some good touches when on the ball.

21.28: United hanging on a bit and it takes a great challenge from Shaw eight yards out to block a shot from O'Neil. Now they have another corner as the lively Forrest's cross is put behind by Roberts.

21.24: Stuff has happened in the last 10 minutes, though none of it has been very interesting. Ball seems to be constantly pinballing around on the edge of the United box, this is very nervy for the home fans.

21.15: Fiddlesticks, that should've been 2-0, Jackson away from his man, cuts it back to Shaw, and his cross is headed wide at the back post by the diving Jarvis. A moment ago Guiseley made a double change, Senior and O'Neil on for Ellington and Baldry.

21.09: Change for United, and it's Adam Marriott going off to be replaced by Rossi Jarvis. And it's a chance immediately for the midfielder to net his first goal, but his shot from the left side of the box trickles across goal and wide.

21.06: Guiseley make progress down the left with Holdsworth, his cross finds Ellington but Berry makes a brave block. Then Toner's floated cross has to be tipped over by Naisbitt. Corner to the visitors, but the cross floats out of play, phew.

21.01: Free kick Guiseley now, Shaw leaning on Ellington, it's taken quickly and wide to the right but Jennings and Berry crowd the visitors out.

20.59: Good ball from Johnson out to Jackson, cross blocked away for the corner. Marriott takes, it gets a flick from Hughes and flies across the six yard box but no one can get a touch.

20.57: Tonight's attendance is 1,118, suprised it made it over the 1,000 mark. 56 travelling supporters.

20.55: Good stuff from United, Berry to Hughes, whose cross is looking for Berry but headed behind. Corner, Marriott to take, towards Hughes, but it's headed behind. Corner number two.

20.52: Two minutes into the second half here, still 1-0. Clarke is on for Guiseley in place of the injured Bower.

HALF TIME: Cambridge United 1-0 Guiseley AFC

20.34: Half time, United lead, just. Improvement needed after the break, but at least the U's have their noses in front thanks to Luke Berry.

20.31: Two minutes to be added, Guiseley going to have to make a change, Bower has had to hobble off with what looks like an ankle injury. Guiseley won't make a change before the break by the looks of it.

20.29: Free kick charged down but it runs to Boshell, whose cross deflects behind. Corner comes in, Hudson heads clear, and Boshell lashes a shot wide.

20.27: Forrestt skips into the box and his low cross cum shot is put behind by Jennings with Naisbitt dithering. Corner into the far post, Ellington controls but can't sort his feet out and the shot is blocked away. Guiseley have a free kick now though, 25 yards out, central position after Marriott fouls that man Forrest.

20.24: That was ever so close to 1-1, Ellington getting to Toner's cross but only flicking a header wide. United very flat since the goal, need to get on the ball again and string a few passes together.

20.19: Bad news for United as Gash is having to be replaced. That shoulder injury is obviously still troubling him. Liam Hughes is on in his place.

20.14: Guiseley's turn to have a bit of possession now, and Baldry's trickery wins a corner off Jennings. In it comes, it's headed up in the air and Ellington's attempted overhead kick is blocked and volleyed clear for a Guiseley throw. Michael Gash will have some treatment now, as he fell awkwardly on his shoulder earlier. Guiseley player is down too.

20.10: GOAL CAMBRIDGE UNITED 1-0 GUISELEY AFC. Nice move from United, who get the ball wide to Jackson. He does Merris for pace and pulls his cross back low for Luke Berry, whose powerful low shot from 12 yards beats Drench all ends up. U's in front.

20.08: United keeping possession well, though for some reason this doesn't please the crowd. Eventually Johnson goes long to Jackson, who works it inside to Shaw, but his cross is chested back to the keeper by Ainge. Cool head from the Guiseley skipped.

20.04: Yellow card. Late challenge from Merris on Marriott there, yellow card for the left-back. Ball comes forward from the free kick but Gash can't quite control.

20.00: Great stuff from Berry, turning away from trouble and finding Dunk, whose beats Ainge and heads for the byline. The full-back recovers to block the cross, corner United. In it comes from Marriott, it's headed clear and as Maz tries to retrieve he's adjudged to have fouled his man, free kick.

19.55: Toner fouls Marriott, free kick to United wide on the right. Jennings swings the ball over but it's headed away.

19.54: Dunk works it inside to Shaw, his pass forward deflects into the path of Gash, who sets it back for Marriott, whose shot from 18 yards is parried away by Drench, good save. Jackson picks up the rebound wide on the right but pulls his cross back behind everyone and Guiseley can clear.

19.51: Nice build-up down the right from Guiseley, cross comes in, Ellington nods it back but Boshell can only slice his shot wide. Good move that, he perhaps should have done better with the shot from 20 yards.

19.49: Cagey stuff in the early stages, long ball forward there from Jennings looking for the run of Shaw, but it's just about cut out by Ainge who clears.

19.46: Here we go, Guiseley to kick off attacking the NRE.

19.43: The team's are out. Tonight's referee is Wayne Barratt, who you may remember - or wish not to - from the recent match away at Telford.

19.32: Apparently Guiseley have been to the quarter-finals in each of the last two seasons, lets hope they don't complete their hat-trick. United, of course, are in uncharted territory, and if they progress to face Wealdstone or Dartford it will be the furthest they've ever been in the Trophy.

Cambridge United: Naisbitt, Roberts, Jennings, Hudson, Johnson, Jackson (Thorpe 85), Dunk, Shaw, Berry, Marriott (Jarvis 64), Gash (Hughes 34). Subs: McAuley, Jarvis, Hughes, Eades, Thorpe.

Guiseley AFC: Drench, Ainge, Merris, Ellis (Clarke 45), Bower, Baldry (Senior 67), Boshell, Holdsworth, Toner, Ellington (O'Neil 67), Forrest. Subs: Clarke, O'Neil, Senior, Burns, Giles.

19.23: TEAM NEWS. As expected United make one change, with Rossi Jarvis making way for Adam Marriott as Jez George looks for a bit extra in attack. With Andy Pugh cup-tied Jack Eades comes onto the bench having recovered from his hand injury.

Guiseley's three ex-U's are in the starting line-up, Steve Drench, Simon Ainge, and Ciaran Toner. Striker James Walshaw, who has been in good form since arriving from Darlington, is cup tied.

19.15: Hello and welcome to the R Costings Abbey Stadium for tonight's match against Guiseley AFC. United have a place in the quarter-finals of the FA Trophy in sight, but will have their work cut out against a Guiseley side with one defeat in their last 20 games in league and cup.
