Cambridge United's ten match unbeaten ran came to an end as they fell to defeat at Aggborough. Brian Smikle's early goal was the difference between the sides and there was a hint of offside to his finish, although this does nothing to disguise the fact that The U's were deservedly beaten.

Martin Ling made one change to the starting line-up, Kevin Roberts replacing the injured Dan Gleeson at right back.

In an evenly contested opening, Paul Carden and Roberts both had to be alert to dangerous deliveries, while Jai Reason nearly managed to thread a dangerous ball through to Danny Crow.

But United's defence was breached eighteen minutes in as Brian Smikle broke the offside trap, and with the back line looking in vain for an offside flag the striker tucked the ball under the exposed Simon Brown.

Only moments later, United were indebted to Brown for a magnificent save to prevent Smikle doubling his tally for the evening, pawing his six yard effort out from a grounded position before gratefully clutching the rebound when Smikle had the goal gaping.

As the half continued there was only one side looking likely to score, Brown having to block from Knights twice from close range. Jai Reason was then booked as his frustration for the better of him.

When Brown was finally beaten, United were indebted to a splendid piece of covering by defending from Kevin Roberts to deny Robbie Matthews. Having rounded Brown, his effort was cleared of the line by a lunging Roberts.

Half time came and Martin Ling reacted to a dire half by replacing Reason and Murray with Simon Russell and Rory McAuley.

United came out after half time and managed to create chances for the first time. Ross Atkins had to stop a charging Lee Phillips, before the same player rose well to head at the keeper from Russell's cross. They came closest when a left wing delivery somehow evaded a number of players inside the six yard box.

United made their final change as Calum Willock replaced Lee Phillips. With it looking like time was running out on The U's Danny Crow nearly pulled a goal out of nothing as he looped Simon Russell's cross onto the bar, but Kidderminster continued to look more likely to add to their lead.

Simon Brown's goal was peppered was all ranges, while United continuously failed to properly test Atkins on a regular enough basis. Brown made another two fine saves late on before the full time whistle blew.

Man of the Match: Simon Brown, simply because United would have been on the end of a heavy beating if it wasn't for their custodian, who continued to impress with some splendid displays.

Reporting by Matt Ramsay

18.45 Evening all and welcome to live coverage of tonight's Blue Square Premier fixture between Kidderminster Harriers and Cambridge United. Team news to follow as it arrives. The pitch looks in good condition after fears about the weather.

19.10 Still no team news, but I can vouch for the quality of the famous Aggborough food.

19. 30 Team News:

Martin Ling makes one change to Saturday's win against Grays, bringing Kevin Roberts in at right back to replace the injured Dan Gleeson.

Kidderminster: Ross Atkins; Duane Courtney, Martin Riley, Luke Prosser, Tom Sharpe, Chris McPhee, Dean Bennett, Jack Byrne; Darryl Knights, Robbie Matthews, Brian Smikle.

Subs: Jasbir Singh, James Lawrie, Lloyd Kerry, Marc Goodfellow, David McDermott.

CUFC: Simon Brown; Kevin Roberts, David Partridge, Brian Saah, Josh Coulson; Antonio Murray, Scott Neilson, Jai Reason, Paul Carden (c); Lee Phillips, Danny Crow.

Subs: Aiden Palmer, Rory McAuley, Simon Russell, Adam Marriott, Calum Willock.

19.40 The teams are back in the dressing rooms ahead of the game. The cloud cover has thankfully departed, predictably replaced by a bitter coldness.

19.43 The sides are out, United in their traditional amber and black and the hosts in white and red.

19.45 We're off, Kidderminster get us underway and shoot towards the United in the first half.

19.47 United win a corner on the left but Jai Reason's delivery is cleared away. Kidderminster break away and former U Darryl Knights has a pile driver beaten away by Simon Brown.

19.52 Not a lot happening so far. Jai Reason attempts an in-swinging ball from the left which just evades everyone.

19.54 Danny Crow lays the ball back to Reason and is just unable to run onto the lofted ball through the middle.

19.55 Dean Bennett runs past three men before slipping at a crucial moment.

19.58 Kidderminster pass their way out wide to good effect before Paul Carden makes a vital headed clearance. Moments later and Jack Byrne is denied by a finely timed challenge from Kevin Roberts, who manages to win a goalkick.

20.03 GOAL. Kidderminster 1-0 CUFC. United's defence look quizzically at the linesman as a through ball finds Brian Smikle completely unmarked and bearing down on goal, and the striker slots the ball under Brown for the opening goal.

20.05 Smikle goes into the book for a heavy challenge on Partridge, although in fairness it was a 50/50 ball.

20.09 Kidderminster should be two up. Simon Brown produces a magnificent save, arcing his arm up to force Smikle's six yard effort away after Robbie Matthews brakes the offside trap and crosses low from the byeline. The rebound falls to Smikle, who passes the ball straight into Brown's grateful arms.

20.15 An opening for Murray from Reason's splendid through ball, but an offside flag halts the chance as the winger looked to shoot.

20.17 Smikle somehow worms through a flurry of missed tackles before teeing up Knights, who shoots straight at Brown from fifteen yards. The United fans behind Brown's goal invite their team to wake up.

20.19 Brown saves United again. Smikle attempts to shoot but it loops up and turns into a perfect through ball for the onrushing Knights, but Brown runs out and blocks the ball with his chest.

20.21 Jai Reason goes into the book for a frustrated late tackle on Duane Courtney after losing the ball in the corner.

20.25 Again Kidderminster should add to their score. Kidderminster clear a United corner and Darryl Knights flicks an excellent cross field ball to find Robbie Matthews completely unmarked. Charging into the box he rounds Brown but is denied by a simply superb piece of covering defending by Kevin Roberts, who lunges to clear the ball off the line from the striker's shot.

20.32 Two minutes of added time come and go and it's half time. United have been completely outplayed thus far and can't clear their lines. If Kidderminster had at least two more goals, it wouldn't be undeserved.

HALF TIME Kidderminster 1-0 CUFC

20.48 Two changes for United at half time in an attempt to change things up. Rory McAuley and Simon Russell replace Jai Reason and Antonio Murray. We're underway again.

20.50 United look to press early on and Simon Russell's first impact is to see a left wing cross headed away.

20.55 An ambitious Danny Crow flick forward nearly sets Lee Phillips away, but keeper Ross Atkins just prevents the ball bouncing over him when making the claim.

20.58 Jack Byrne needs treatment for a blow to the head sustained in a challenge with Rory McAuley as the sub tries to assert himself in the game. The resulting drop ball is contested, with the hosts coming out on top and clearing their lines.

20.59 United's first real opening of the night as Lee Phillips gets up to meet Simon Russell's cross, but it's close enough to Atkins to make a comfortable claim.

21.02 United concoct their best move of the match with Roberts, Russell and Neilson combining on the wing and a whipped delivery is just too far ahead of the diving Lee Phillips to make a telling interception.

21.03 Kidderminster make their first change of the night, replacing Martin Riley with Lloyd Kerry.

21.05 Opening for Robbie Matthews as he runs onto Smikle's chest down before firing well over.

21.07 United again go close as a whipped ball from the left byeline somehow escapes a flood of players inside the six yard box and goes out for a throw.

21.13 Calum Willock replaces Lee Phillips as United make their final change of the night.

21.14 Chris McPhee almost creates something from nothing, blasting just wide from well out wide on the right.

21.16 Dean Bennett looks to be set away by an exquisite through ball, but the flag goes up somewhat late. The midfielder is booked for kicking the ball away.

21.20 Thirteen minutes for United to maintain their unbeaten run. United's 163 fans in a crowd of 1131 are doing their best to make themselves heard, but their team need to pull something out of the hat to keep their unbeaten run going.

21.22 Out of nowhere they nearly do get something out of the hat. Simon Russell's cross is met bis met by a flying Danny Crow leap, who sees his looping header land on the top of the bar.

21.23 Matthews could finish things as the flag stays down for once but Simon Brown makes himself big to make the block.

21.27 United are leaving more and more holes at the back and Smikle looks to exploit it before firing just wide.

21.32 Last minute of the game and Kevin Roberts marauds up the wing before teeing up Scott Neilson, whose cross is nodded back across by Crow to Brian Saah, but unfortunately he gets much more man than ball with his header.

21.33 Three minutes have been added on and we're into it.

21.36 Jack Byrne goes into the book, before Simon Brown saves from Matthews yet again when the striker goes through on the break. Brown has been magnificent but the same can't be said for the rest of the team. That's it, United's ten game unbeaten run comes to an end and there can be few complaints about Kidderminster's victs it, United's ten game unbeaten run comes to an end and there can be few complaints about Kidderminster's victory
