Stuart Bimson returned to Cambridge United on 23rd July 2008 as First Team Coach.  The 38-year-old was a player here under John Taylor, Herve Renard and Steve Thompson between 2003 and 2005, serving as captain in his first season.

A UEFA 'A' qualified coach, 'Bimmo' returned to United after just over a season as manager of Bedford Town, where he managed Gavin Hoyte and Ben Farrell before they signed for Cambridge.

He has rejoined Cambridge United initially to the end of the 2008/09 season as First Team Coach, and he will assist Gary Brabin and Paul Carden with the day-to-day coaching and scouting and will assist Brabin on the sidelines during matches while player-assistant Carden concentrates on playing.

Liverpool-born Bimson's playing career began at Macclesfield and he joined Bury in 1995 for £12,500, but it was Lincoln City that he enjoyed his longest spell, making 170 League appearances between 1996 and 2003.

He moved on when then-Cambridge United manager John Taylor offered him a two-year deal and appointed him captain, and although he began the 2004-05 season out of favour under new manager Herve Renard, who considered him too old, he was restored to the team under Steve Thompson and ended that eventful season as a regular member of the team that battled unsuccessfully against relegation to the Conference.

Released following relegation, he saw out his playing career at Canvey Island before making the move into management with Bedford Town in early 2007.
