Unwilling to risk a full-strength side in United's final warm-up game of pre-season, Martin Ling oversaw a mix and match side of youngsters, a non-contract goalkeeper and players who still needed match minutes in the Cambs Professional Cup Final against Histon at the Abbey.

The recalled Courtney Pitt scored an excellent free kick (his second in two games) in the 70th minute to cancel out Hammond's deflected first half goal, but former U Josh Simpson pounced on a rebound to seal the win nine minutes from time.
