The 2-2 scoreline did not begin to tell the story of a game that included four goals, two penalties, two sendings-off and Jon Challinor stretchered off as Lee McEvilly and then Mark Convery in stoppage time twice hauled United level. 

Lee McEvilly levelled from the penalty spot early in the second half but the home side took the lead again on the hour from a penalty of their own, Ben Farrell was harshly sent off for a second yellow card then Crawley's Sam Rents followed eight minutes later for the challenge that saw Jon Challinor stretched off, and Mark Convery strode forward to strike a long-range winning goal in the third minute of stoppage tme to secure a deserved point.
