Jon Challinor must wait 48 hours to discover the full extent of the injuries he suffered during Saturday's match.

The midfielder had to be stretchered from the pitch following an 82nd minute challenge by Sam Rents that saw the Crawley defender immediately dismissed, and physio Greg Reid told cambridgeunited.com that the injury cannot be fully assessed at present.

"Jon has sustained a puncture type wound caused by a stud, and extensive bruising to the top of his shin," he said.

"The force of the impact also hyper-extended his knee, and whilst an initial assessment hasn't identified any major internal derangement within the joint, he will be re-assessed in 48 hours when some of the acute pain and swelling has begun to resolve."

Challinor, who joined for £15,000 from Rushden & Diamonds in the summer, has become a regular in midfield this season and has already contributed two goals to the cause.  We will keep you up to date with the news about Jon here at cambridgeunited.com
