Stephen Reed will miss Tuesday's match at Oxford United after injuring an ankle in training on Monday.

The versatile left-sided defender/midfielder had a precautionary X-ray, which confirmed that he had not broken any bones, but he has damaged his ankle ligaments.

Physio Greg Reid confirmed, "It's significant ligament damage so the priority for the next few days is to get the swelling down, then we'll be able to make a much more accurate assessment of how badly damaged the ligaments are and how stable or unstable the joint is."

Danny Brown will have a second anti-inflammatory injection in his ankle on Monday evening to try to aid his recovery from injury. This follows an injection into another part of his ankle last week, as Greg explained: "He's had some improvement but he's only been able to get up to 75% running speed so he's having an injection into a different area.

"The first injection resolved the pain he was having in one area but now there's a residual problem that we're hoping another injection will clear up."

Dan Chillingworth is awaiting a new appointment with his specialist to check his ankle injury, while young midfielder Michael Hyem is resting following an operation two weeks ago for torn cartilage in one knee.

"It was a very bad tear so quite a bit of work was required," added Greg. "As a result of that the joint was quite swollen post-operatively and that will probably persist for a couple of weeks, but we'll see his specialist on Wednesday for his first follow-up appointment and so far he's doing as well as can be expected."
