Football In The Community Update
FITC activity was minimal last week due to the number of schools that were closed, but the children were enjoying themselves and we've still got loads of exciting news about this season's National Tournament and our latest Half Term Soccer Courses.
Football In the Community were due to be joined at Saturday's match by a number of school children as part of the National Schools six a side tournament.
The latest tournament took place just prior to Christmas with several schools taking part and the skill shown by all on the day was fantastic.
It was a prime example that winning isn't everything because even those who weren't winning games played with a smile on their faces, showing the highest levels of sportsmanship.
The tournament was organized on a league basis, before moving on to the knockout stages and the eventual local winners were Swavesey Primary School. They will now represent Cambridge United in the area finals in Southend during February.
If successful, they will move onto the Southern Finals before reaching the National Finals at the Millenium Stadium, Cardiff.
As each team progresses it seems to get more and more difficult each year, and whilst it is primarily about participation, the Swavesey boys will be going all out for victory. Good luck to you all from everyone at Cambridge United, remember Together Everyone Achieves More.
Congratulations to everyone else who took part. As well as Swavesey Primary, we hope to welcome Great & Little Shelford, Foxton, Abbey Meadows, Duxford, and John Paxton to a future home game.
