Christmas Is Coming
Posted on: Wed 17 Nov 2004
As Christmas fast approaches the Football in the Community scheme is busy preparing for our holiday courses over this festive period.
We are running a Parent and child day on Saturday 21st December where everyone should meet at the Abbey Stadium at 10am to take part in a ground tour before walking over to Coldhams Common for a coaching session where both adults and kids can take part. We will return to The Abbey to watch the U's host Bristol Rovers. The game will be finished by 5 o'clock and the cost of this unmissible day is just £15 per parent, £15 per child. Children do not have to be accompanied by an adult.
We are also holding a number of one-day courses throughout the holidays at Sawston, Swavesey, Coldhams Common, and Hills Road. If you wish to receive a booking form or any more information, contact the community office on 01223 416238.
The 10-week programme will conclude with the tournament and all the people who have attended the Monday night sessions will be our guests for the game on the 21st December. Both parties are also looking closely at how we can continue next year and we have already received excellent support from Jim Hill at the Cambridgeshire Football Association.

Enjoying The Match
On December the 18th at Kelsey Kerridge Sports Centre, the Community Staff are involved in a very exciting football tournament. For the last 8 Monday nights, Community Coach Darryl McMurray has been at St Matthew's school in Cambridge, coaching users of the Mental Health Service and homeless people, as part of a joint venture between the Community Scheme and Claire Gordge and Lorraine Thompson from the Sports Development Team of Cambridge City Council.Enjoying the match against Macclesfield Town with us on Saturday are over 100 Junior Section Members and their leaders from the following Boy's Brigade Companies: Cambourne, 4th Cambridge, Haverhill, Huntingdon, Saffron Walden, Sawston, St Neots, and Soham.

Birthday Celebration
We have a young man celebrating his birthday with us at the Macclesfield match. Eight-year-old Oliver Aldridge will be here with his friends from Fenstanton and Hilton Primary School as well as his brother Harry who plays for Papworth Blasters. Both groups will enjoy a tour of the Abbey Stadium, a coaching session and a ticket to the game. For more information on these great days out, call the community office now.The Boys' Brigade, or BB as it is often known, has grown into a large international organisation with a membership of some 400,000. It caters for boys from ages 6 to 18 and operates awards schemes from simple but useful achievements in the Junior Section to the excitement of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme for older members. Members are challenged to discover and learn useful and interesting things as they grow through their BB Company.
Other activities include outings, Summer Camps, and many other exciting events. For further details, contact Doug Irish on 01223 565801 or e-mail: cambs@boys-brigade.org.uk
