Scholars Maintain Form With Big Win

Posted on: Mon 01 Feb 2010

Cambridge United's scholars maintained their long unbeaten run in the Ridgeons League with a 6-0 win against Walsham-le-Willows on Saturday.

Walsham are the only side to have beaten CRC in the league all season, back on the first day of the campaign, and Jez George's side gained revenge for that with a 6-0 win for the second successive Saturday. The match was watched by a crowd of 190, almost double their league average.

Four of the goals were scored in the opening twenty minutes with Adam Marriott, Luke Berry, Jack Igglesden and James Brighton all finding the net. Marriott added a second soon after half time and substitute Jack Bailey added a sixth late on.

The scholars have won all four of their games in January, scoring twenty goals and conceding none in the process. They lead the Ridgeons League by seven points with fifteen matches remaining.

CRC now visit Mildenhall on Tuesday night as they attempt to reach the Semi Finals of the Cambridgeshire Invitation Cup and then host Felixstowe and Walton United next Saturday.
