Open Trials for Youth Scheme
On Wednesday 9th July, the Youth Department held open trials at Coldham's Common for players to come along and try to gain a place in the Cambridge United Youth Development System.
Despite the awful conditions, it proved to be one of the most successful trials that we have ever held.
We had players aged from 5 to 11 and in total 170 players took part during the three hours. Of these 170 we have offered places in our Development Centres to just under 50 players. We have also offered two places in our Development Squads and have offered a trial to two players with our U12 Centre of Excellence for the pre-season period.
The number of players that were selected is the most that we have ever offered and this is credit to the boys for their performances on the night.
"The boys that were selected were of an excellent quality and such a high number at one trial is fantastic for the system and also for the players," said Tom Pell, Football Development Officer.
"I would like to thank the local colts and mini league managers for passing on the trial details, and hopefully they will see the benefit in the boys from being part of our system."
The Youth Development department will be holding further open trials in Cambridge on Wednesday 27th August, for any players who would like to try out with a view to gaining a place for the 2008/09 season.
