Good evening and welcome to the R Costings Abbey Stadium for tonight's game against Altrincham. A warm welcome to all of the supporters, players and directors who have made the long trip south this evening.

I've mentioned before about the special atmosphere generated at the Abbey for evening games. Right through from the 1970's when I used to cycle to games when I lived in Pearne Road, up to today when I fly in from Seattle, it seems there is always more of a buzz when the floodlights are on. I'm sure tonight will be no exception. The passion, noise and support generated by the fans really do help the players on the park. It's nice to know there is no need for me to ask anyone to keep it going either, as our fans never disappoint or fail to deliver.

I'd also like to mention our scholars, playing as CRC in the Ridgeons League, who at the time of writing are top of the league after seven games. Youth Development is of massive importance to this club going forwards and we're blessed with one of the most highly regarded set-ups outside the Premier League. Considering the turmoil of the summer, Jez and his coaching staff continue to work miracles and youth team graduates Josh Coulson, Darryl Coakley, Sam Ives, Rory McAuley, Jordan Patrick and Robbie Willmott have already played a part this season as members of the first team squad. I know there are many more exiting first team prospects waiting in the wings.

Our work in the local community continues and the players put their best foot forward last week to help promote Cancer Research UK's 10k Run, a series of 43 fundraising events held across the UK to help beat cancer. The football club is committed and determined to help with as many worthwhile and community causes as possible. Marvin the Moose will be entering the run on behalf of the club and if you'd like to join him visit www.run10k.org

Finally, I would like to personally thank Gary Stroud for digging into his own pockets last week to buy the paint needed to complete the project on the back of the Habbin Stand. I'm sure supporters will have noticed the 'new look' of Amber and Black cladding which, in addition to the Cambridge News 'Your City - Your Club' banner has served to really tidy up that part of the ground.

A big thank you also to the volunteers who gave up their time to come in and do the work, as we all strive to move forwards, United in Endeavour.

Cambridge United: YOUR CITY - YOUR CLUB

All the best,

Paul Barry
