From the Boardroom
Fans Directors Brian Attmore writes.
This week heralds the start of the new academic year at Cambridge University. As such there are thousands of new students who have descended upon the City of Cambridge for their higher education courses, and tickets for Tuesday's game were offered free to those attending the Freshers' Fair at the Kelsey Kerridge Sports Hall.
If you were one of those who took up the invitation, may I extend a very warm welcome to you at the Trade Recruitment Stadium. We hope you enjoyed the game and will come back again. Reduced price admission is offered to Students on production of a valid Student Union Card for all home games.
Author Nick Hornby followed the same path back in the Seventies, as he recalls in his best-selling book 'Fever Pitch'. Despite being an avid Arsenal fan, he ventured along to this ground when a student and quickly became enamoured enough to adopt the U's as his 'second team'.
It would be great if you would do the same and if you haven't already read it, I suggest placing 'Fever Pitch' at the top of your University reading list.
'United in Learning', our very own Study Support IT Centre under the Main Stand, continues to thrive and the core programme of afternoon sessions are booked through to next summer. The pupils will be working to make advances in Literacy, Numeracy and ITC. For this half-term we welcome Coleridge School, Cherry Hinton Juniors, Queen Ediths Primary and Comberton Village College.

To assist Centre Manager Jez Daniel, a new part-time teacher Helen Paterson has been recruited. In addition, we are grateful for the help of six Volunteer Mentors during the week. Two of these were recruited as a result of the leaflets that were sent out by the Club after our Wembley Play-off game.
We are always looking for more Mentors and Schools, and plans are progressing to expand the community education scheme outside this core scheme. Anyone interested should contact Jez Daniel on jez.daniel.pfs@cambridge-united.co.uk
I look forward to seeing you all back this Saturday 11th October when Weymouth are the visitors.
