WOKING

Monday 30th March 2009. Kick-Off 7.45pm

Kingfield Stadium, Kingfield, Woking, Surrey, GU22 9AA. Tel: 01483 772470

Directions by Car: Leave the M25 at Junction 10 and take the A3 towards Guilford. On approaching Guilford, turn right onto the A320 heading towards Woking. On entering Woking, turn right at the roundabout into Wych Hill Lane, towards Old Woking (A247). This road leads to the A247 (Kingfield Road) and the entrance to the ground is on the right. (GU22 9AA)

Parking: There is no parking at the ground itself, but there is free parking available at the leisure centre/park opposite.

Train: From the station, turn right down Station Approach, and at the bottom, turn left onto Claremont Avenue (A320). At the end of Claremont Avenue, turn left onto Kingfield Road and the ground can be found over the road on the right. Do be sure to exit the station on the Station Approach side, or else you'll find yourself caught up in the town's hideous one-way system. The walk should take around 10 minutes, but a taxi will not break the bank.
Supporters travelling by train from Cambridge will be able to find a return service from Woking (Main), but don't expect to arrive home until well after midnight.

The Ground: The Kingfield is quite a mish-mash, with a giant seated stand at one end towering over the rest of the ground, which is rather dilapidated. United fans will be housed in the shallow, open terrace which runs the entire breadth of the pitch. The area, so spread out, is not conducive to the creation of an atmosphere, but the view isn't too shabby.

Pre-Match Refreshment: The Kingfield Arms, 300 yards along Kingfield Road, is the establishment nearest to the ground. While there is a greater selection in the town centre, not far from the railway station.

Local Attractions: Woking, twinned with Rastatt in Germany, was home to Paul Weller in his early years, and his acclaimed album, Stanley Road was named after the street on which he lived.

Some believe that his song, Pink on White Walls was written after a young Weller's mother put his prized Cards shirt in the wash with some deep red net curtains.
