Away Travel: Barrow 17th March

Posted on: Tue 17 Mar 2009

BARROW AFC

Holker Street Stadium, Wilkie Road, Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, LA14 5UW

Tuesday 17th March, Kick-Off 7.45pm

Directions by Car: Leave the M6 at Junction 36 and take the A590 towards Barrow-in-Furness. On entering the outskirts of the town, you should pass a fire station on your right, after which Holker Street's floodlights should appear ahead to your left. As you near, turn left into Wilkie Road and right into Holker Street. (LA14 5UW)

Parking: There should be sufficient street parking nearby, especially on a Tuesday night.

Train: Probably best not. It's a devilishly long way, but if you're staying over on Tuesday night, give it a go. The station is around a mile from the ground. Exit the station, and the small entrance road will lead onto Holker Street. Look right, and head for the floodlights.

The Away Travel Club will be running a coach to the game, priced at £37.50 for non-members, £36.50 for Amber Army members*, £34 for members and £17 for Under 16's and Junior U's.
The coach is due to depart Ely at 9.45am and the Trade Recruitment Stadium at 10.30am.  Contact the club on 01223 566500 to book your place.
*Amber Army members should have their membership card and proof of age with them when reserving their spot.

Admission: On the terrace, £11 for adults, £8 for concessions and £4 for Under 16's.

Programme: £2

The Ground: United fans will be allocated a portion of shallow, uncovered terracing at the Crossbar End of the ground, which won't afford the greatest view of the action, particularly at the other end of the pitch. There will also be a small amount of seating available in the covered Main Stand.

Pre-Match Refreshment: The club has its own bar, called the Crossbar (note that football goals have crossbars, and a 'bar' is also a place where you drink and socialise - clever, eh), where away fans are likely to be welcome.
For the town centre, continue along the A590 and turn left into Duke Street. In this area you will also find the Ambrose Hotel, which is a CAMRA Good Beer Guide listed establishment.

Local Attractions: Not far from the railway station, at the junction of Holker Street and Abbey Road there lies a statue of former Liverpool great Emlyn Hughes, who was born in Barrow-in-Furness.
