Going to Histon on New Year's Day?

Posted on: Mon 31 Dec 2007

HISTON

Tuesday 1st January 2008, Kick-Off 3.00pm

The Glassworld Stadium, Bridge Road, Impington, Cambridge, CB24 9PH. Tel: 01223 237373

Directions by Car: From the centre of Cambridge, head onto Histon Road and follow it directly along, until reaching the A14 roundabout. Take the second exit from the roundabout - signposted Histon, Cottenham. Proceed straight ahead, and as you pass over the bridge, you should see the ground below to your right. The entrance is immediately the other side of the bridge.

From the A14, exit at Junction 32. If coming from the south or the west, take the first exit, signposted Histon, Cottenham or the third exit if travelling from the east.

Parking: There is no parking available at the ground so street parking is the order of the day. There are three Official Car Parking areas in the village, priced at £1 - Car Park 'A' at Barclays Bank, and Car Parks 'B' and 'C' at the East of England Development Agency (EEDA). All Car Parks are located off Station Road, parallel to Bridge Road.

Other common parking areas are at the Cambridge Lea hospital around the corner on New Road and near to and at Impington Village College a little further through the village.

By Train: Histon no longer has a working railway station.

Local buses will not be running on New Year's Day.

There will be no Away Travel Club coach for this game.

Admission: This match is all-ticket. Tickets will not be available on the day. Supporters wishing to go to the match should already have purchased their ticket from CUFC.  United fans will be located in the Bridge Road end of the ground, and are advised to allow plenty of time for parking, arriving, queuing etc due to the large gate.

Programme: £2.50

Histon - The Glassworld Stadium

The Ground: Since our visit to The Glassworld Stadium last season, there has been some deal of development, with the new Red Gate Grandstand recently opened, alongside the old grandstand. Meanwhile, opposite, the shallow covered terracing has been replaced with seating, which has decreased the capacity in this area somewhat. Behind either goal, a shallow area of covered metal terracing remains, running the width of the pitch, giving way either side to simple non-tiered concrete. As such, it is worth arriving in good time to secure a desirable spot.

Pre-Match Refreshment: there are a number of pubs in Histon & Impington, with the Rose and Crown, and Railway Vue popular pre-match destinations, located a stones throw from the ground.
