POST-WYCOMBE RICHARD MONEY
Richard Money says his side will take what they can from an encouraging start to last night’s clash with Wycombe, which ended with a disappointing 1-0 defeat at Adams Park.
The U’s were reduced to ten men during the second half when Chris Dunn was shown a straight red card and despite Sam Beasant saving the resulting penalty, a sweet strike by Michael Harriman on 70 minutes sealed the win for the Chairboys.
Reflecting on the fixture Money said: “You can always take positives out of a game and of course we have to look at the aspects that we can build on, but we need to wise up a little bit.
“For the opening 20 minutes I thought we were very good in which we passed the ball well but I think when we showed them our teeth, they went tight man for man all over the pitch and made every situation a confrontation. We found it very difficult to wrestle free.
“It is always the same at Wycombe, it’s tough and they are very fierce and committed. If you come out second best in one or two of the important confrontations then you might end up on the wrong end of the score line.
“It was a disappointing result obviously because we felt we could go there and get a result.”
Meanwhile, commenting on the bearing that Chris Dunn’s dubious dismissal had on the match, the U’s Boss added: “An incident like that will always have an impact on the game. The disappointing aspect for me is that regardless of what the decision should or shouldn’t have been, Sam Beasant saves the penalty and I think we should have had enough about us to see out the final whistle and pick something up from the game.
“We are a little loose and we need to knuckle down.”
