Johnny Hunt signs for Cambridge United

CAMBRIDGE United have signed Johnny Hunt from Wrexham on a two-year deal.

Liverpool-born Hunt joined the Red Dragons as an Under 9, progressing through the Academy to become a first team regular over the last two seasons.

The 23-year-old found the net 12 times in the Conference Premier last term, playing across the midfield and as a left back.

Commenting on the new addition to the U's squad, Director of Football, Jez George, said: "We are really pleased to have been able to agree compensation with Wrexham and complete this signing.  Johnny is a very good footballer.  He's a versatile, left footed player, with bags of energy and ability, who will add real competition in three positions.  Johnny's goal scoring record last season was outstanding and he will add real quality to our squad.  Richard and I were impressed with his huge desire to join us.  Johnny is desperate to play in the Football League and hungry to achieve success at Cambridge United.  We have signed one of the best young players in the Conference and we look forward to him developing further through the philosophy and coaching environment that underpins our football operation."

Speaking about his move to United, Johnny said: "I'm delighted to have joined Cambridge United.  I'm really excited about the new season and can't wait to play in League Two."
