Chairman Dave Doggett and Chief Executive Jez George thank Richard Money
Following the announcement on Monday that Cambridge United Football Club had parted company with Richard Money, Dave Doggett and Jez George placed on record their gratitude towards the 60-year old this morning.
Club Chairman Dave Doggett reflected on an eventful three years which have included two visits to Wembley Stadium culminating in promotion back to the Football League and the club’s first ever national trophy, as well as the memorable FA Cup Fourth Round tie with Manchester United.
He commented: “Richard has played an integral role in the success that the club has experienced during the last three years. When you walk through the hospitality suites, corridors and bar at the Abbey Stadium and look at all the pictures on the walls of the two trips to Wembley and Old Trafford, it has been a wonderful journey.
“Who will forget Wembley? Who will forget that Friday night against Manchester United and the trip up to Old Trafford? It has formed the basis for Cambridge United Football Club moving forward.
“Richard has been key in that journey and I would like want to place on record my personal thanks to him as well as from the club for everything that he has contributed.”
Chief Executive Jez George echoed those sentiments, and said: “We as a football club, and that includes the Board, every member of staff, the players and the supporters would like to place on record our sincere thanks to Richard.
“I have a huge amount of respect for Richard both personally and professionally. We are all grateful and respectful of what he has achieved for this Football Club.”
Looking at this weekend’s FA Cup tie against Basingstoke Town at the Abbey Stadium on Saturday afternoon, Jez continued: “After Dave and I informed Richard of our decision, I spoke to Joe [Dunne], the coaching staff and then the players. I asked Joe, on behalf of the Board, to lead training this week, which he did yesterday and again today, and prepare the team for Saturday.
“The FA Cup is an important competition for the club and our focus at this time should be on giving Joe and the staff every support.”
When asked to comment on the process and timescale of appointing a new manager, Jez reiterated his earlier comments: “We should be respectful to Joe, the staff and the players. This is not the time to discuss anything beyond Saturday.”
