DERRY DELIGHTED WITH “DESERVED” MORECAMBE WIN

25 November 2015

Post-Match Reaction: Shaun Derry

Shaun Derry praised a high intensity performance from the U’s as he clinched his first win as Cambridge United Manager with a 4-2 triumph away to Morecambe last night.

A dynamic first half performance from United in which Leon Legge, Ryan Donaldson and Luke Berry all scored to give the U’s a comprehensive advantage, before Ben Williamson sealed the win early in the second half with a well taken goal.

Whilst the U’s Boss was keen for his side not to rest on their laurels, he was pleased with their persistent and energetic 90 minute display.

Speaking post-match, Derry said: “I don’t want us to get carried away but Morecambe is a tough place to come and we deserved the win.

“It is testament to the players who really understood the task we set for them tonight and put in a good performance. In terms of the performance levels I was happy at Oxford, reasonably pleased with Accrington and tonight I’m absolutely delighted to come away with the result.

“We were inventive, clinical with our passing and had a lot of rotation in our midfield which caused a lot of problems. There were one or two great performances tonight and in fact across the board I felt everybody played to their maximum.

“Certain players switched off at crucial times and that is something I will be pushing them to get rid of as soon as possible.  But the intensity and energy level were very good and we have to look after the boys so that they are ready for the weekend.”

Meanwhile when asked about the momentum the U’s can build from the clash at the Globe Arena, Derry continued: “It has been an up and down season so far, and following a performance like this you hope the team can take huge encouragement moving forward.

“The recovery starts now in terms of the recovery, training on Thursday to then have an even better day on Saturday against Notts County.”
