DERRY COMMENDS U’S DETERMINATION IN NOTTS COUNTY WIN

24 April 2016

POST-MATCH: SHAUN DERRY

Cambridge United Manager Shaun Derry felt his side dug their heels well to clinch a 2-1 victory over Notts County in Sky Bet League Two.

The U’s showed great character to grind out a win at Meadow Lane which keeps the U’s within five points of the top seven, and Derry gave this assessment of the clash: “It was a very determined performance from us and it’s earned us three well-deserved points.

“We started really well but it turned out to be a difficult afternoon. We pressed with high intensity, obviously got a large amount of luck with the first goal, but felt we deserved it and perhaps if Harrison Dunk’s shot goes in, we might have had a more relaxing afternoon.

“Notts County gave us a difficult last 20 minutes in the first half, but we responded well and were good in getting the points from the game.”

Derry now looks ahead to the final two games of the campaign with great anticipation, particularly Saturday’s fixture on home soil against Plymouth Argyle.

He added: “We can expect a bumper crowd next week at the Abbey which we’re looking forward to. I think from watching us you can sense the feeling that we really don’t want the season to end.

“We’re all enjoying our football at the moment, because it’s a season that has taken an upward curve and we don’t want that to stop.”
