COMMUNITY CAROLS - 9TH DECEMBER

9 December 2014

Carol Service to take place on Tuesday night

ON Tuesday 9th December at 7pm the R Costings Abbey Stadium will be hosting Cambridge United’s Community Carol Service.

The event is free, and all are welcome to join Cambridge United’s staff and players, and special guests Jeremy Sallis, of BBC Radio Cambridgeshire, and the Deputy Mayor, Councillor Robert Dryden, for an evening of festive fun.

The Salvation Army Band will be performing, as well as children’s choirs from local schools. This year, the Service will be part of the “Silent Night Carols” national initiative, which highlights the role that both carols and football had in the Christmas Truce of 1914, where British and German soldiers laid down their guns and exchanged gifts in no-man’s-land.

As part of this, there will be an educational exhibition on World War One in the Dublin Suite, where refreshments will also be on sale.

The Community Trust would like to thank Stuart Wood for his help in organising the service and Ridgeons for sponsoring the event. Thanks also to the Trust’s Headline Sponsor for 2014/15, Sepura.

Earlier in the evening, at 6pm, the Deputy Mayor will be switching on the lights on the Abbey People’s Christmas Tree, outside Spar on Barnwell Road. Feel free to join that before joining the short walk down to Cambridge United, where the Abbey People Glee Club will be performing in the Dublin Suite, prior to the Carol Service.

U's players will be signing copies of the 2015 Calendar before tonight's carols, from 6-7pm in the club shop!
