CAMBRIDGE UNITED OFFERING CASHBACK TO CLUBS IN CONTINUED SUPPORT OF GRASSROOTS FOOTBALL

Cambridge United continue to support the growth of grassroots football across Cambridgeshire with a new 'Cashback for Clubs' initiative, following a mega Abbey Stadium five-a-side tournament last weekend.

Bank Holiday Monday saw the U's host over 100 local junior teams for an exclusive opportunity to play on the pitch at the Abbey Stadium in a five-a-side tournament for all age groups between Under 6 and Under 11.

Over 800 children participated in the event which was open to all Colts and Mini Soccer teams in the area and saw teams from across the county taking part in a celebration of local grassroots football.

The event highlighted Cambridge United's ongoing ambitions to support the growth of grassroots football and work in partnership with local clubs through their Absolute Travel Partner Club Programme.

The U's have just launched a new initiative, which offers clubs signed up to the Absolute Travel Partner Club programme, the opportunity to receive £5 cashback for every player that books a place on the upcoming Whitsun and Summer Soccer School programmes.

With a four day Whitsun holiday course set to be rolled out at 20 venues across the region followed by an exciting five week schedule throughout the summer, the cashback for clubs offer provides an opportunity for their players to experience coaching with Cambridge United and their local club to benefit financially.

Youth Development and Community Manager James Cutting commented: "Cambridge United understand the difficulties and pressures that come with successfully running clubs at a grassroots level. From the costs of footballs, equipment and venue hire, to the sheer number of hours required to deliver training sessions and fixtures, it is a demanding task.

"We recognise the key role that grassroots football plays in Cambridgeshire and as the professional football club in the area, we feel a responsibility to make use of our resource to facilitate growth.

"Our Absolute Travel Partner Club programme is one way in which we can help support local colts and mini leagues teams, and the 'Cashback for Clubs' offer is an initiative whereby Cambridge United can also help them raise funds.

“There is no catch and the only limit to the amount of cash that Cambridge United will donate to partner clubs is the number of children from each club that attends a Soccer School.

“If every player of a team attended for a full week, that would be enough money to buy a kit.  If every player at every age group in a club attended for a full week, the donation could be more than £1000!”
