MATCH PREVIEW | STEVENAGE

It’s almost derby day for the U’s who come up against the hottest team in Sky Bet League Two at the moment, local rivals Stevenage at Cambs Glass Stadium this weekend.

Following a gritty win over Cheltenham Town on the road last Saturday, Shaun Derry’s men are on the hunt for consecutive League victories that could propel them closer to the top seven, but face an immense task in the form of Stevenage.

The U’s look likely to be boosted by the return of Liam O’Neil following his grade 1 muscle tear, whilst Barry Corr and Adam McGurk both continue to make progress with their respective recoveries.

However, United will be without Medy Elito, with the dynamic forward ruled out due to the hamstring problem he sustained at Whaddon Road last week.

Meanwhile, Stevenage approach the fixture in better form than any other side in the entire EFL, with Darren Sarll’s side occupying fourth position having picked eight wins from their last ten fixtures in the division.

Top goalscorer Matt Godden recently surpassed the 20 mark for the season in an impressive 3-0 win over Portsmouth, whilst the U’s will also need to keep a close eye on the Hertfordshire side’s other danger men Josh McQuiod and Tom Pett.

United can take confidence from being one of only five teams to gain three points from Stevenage since Christmas, with Piero Mingoia’s late goal snatching the points for the U’s in the reverse fixture at the Lamex Stadium.

Late goals have been a feature for Cambridge United in this fixture, including Harrison Dunk’s 96th minute winner on home soil last season, as well as the memorable Scott Rendell goal back in 2009 which confirmed the U’s a place in the Conference Play-off final at Wembley.

Stevenage do lead the overall head-to-head record though, with nine wins to United’s seven.
