MATCH PREVIEW: LUTON TOWN – HOME
Cambridge United return to home soil this Saturday afternoon for the crunch match with Luton Town at the Cambs Glass Stadium in Sky Bet League Two (Kick Off 3:00pm).
Shaun Derry’s men will be aiming to carry the momentum built in an impressive midweek performance against Wolves in the EFL Cup, in which the U’s gave their Championship opponents an extremely tricky evening.
Despite being in search of their first League win of the season, United will be confident they can replicate their display from Tuesday night to ensure they secure a result against the Hatters, in a match that never fails to produce an electric atmosphere.
U’s Boss Shaun Derry will still be without Harrison Dunk, Adam McGurk and George Maris through injury, although the trio have made significant steps in their recovery during the last seven days.
Meanwhile, the visitors arrive at the Cambs Glass Stadium this afternoon sat in third positon in Sky Bet League Two and aiming to continue their positive start to the season.
Nathan Jones’ men suffered their first defeat of the season at Stevenage last weekend, but were unblemished before then, having beaten Plymouth, Aston Villa and Newport and drawing with Yeovil Town.
Like the U’s, the Hatters gave Championship opposition a run for their money midweek in EFL Cup action, as they bowed out of the competition with a narrow 1-0 defeat at the hands of Leeds United.
Shaun Derry feels the tussles with Luton are fixtures for everyone to look forward to, and said: “These are great games! There is always an added bite whenever we play Luton Town.
“The players of both football club realise that, as do the supporters. There always seems to be an added incentive to get behind the players.
“I’m sure they’ll be a bumper crowd heading to the Cambs Glass Stadium on Saturday. We’ll need them to be as vocal as they can be because Luton will be travelling with a large following as well.
“It all bodes well for a great afternoon of football. We have to concentrate on our performance levels and if we can match what we showed at Wolves, then we can absolutely give Luton a game.”
