CAMBRIDGE UNITED MAKE WINGER DAVID AMOO FIRST SUMMER SIGNING

Cambridge United have completed the Club's first summer signing, with former Partick Thistle winger David Amoo joining the U's on a one year deal.

The pacey 26-year old switches to the Cambs Glass Stadium and offers Head Coach Shaun Derry additional strength to the U's wide positions ahead of the 2017/18 Sky Bet League Two season.

Following the expiry of his contract at Partick Thistle, Amoo is now looking forward to plying his trade back in the EFL for Cambridge United.

He said: "When I heard about the interest from Cambridge United, I jumped at it with open arms. It's a challenge that I'm really excited about.

"I've played at League One and League Two level for a large part of my career, so I'm looking forward to moving back to England and showing my stuff here. I know how competitive this level is with a lot of games to be played, so I want to chip in with as much as I can to help the team.

"They finished just outside the play-offs last season and it's clear there is a strong group of talented players, who I am keen to get to work with."

Discussing the opening summer addition to the first team squad, Cambridge United Head Coach Shaun Derry added: "We are delighted to have secured the services of David and look forward to welcoming him into the group.

"We wanted to bring a different type of player into the squad and David certainly possesses those different qualities. I'm sure our fans will enjoy watching him when the new season arrives."

Having begun his youth career with Millwall, Amoo is a product of Liverpool's Academy after being spotted by the Reds at a young age before going on to make his senior debut for the Club in a Europa League qualifier.

He found his feet in the Football League through loan spells with Hull City, MK Dons and Bury Town before making permanent moves to Preston North End and Tranmere Rovers which saw Amoo accumulate over 70 appearances.

The winger settled with Carlisle United after moving to Brunton Park in 2013, scoring 13 goals in 63 games for the Cumbrians, but most recently featured over 60 times in the SPL for Partick Thistle.

Cambridge United Head of Football Operations Ben Strang concluded: "We are pleased that David is the first to join us ahead of next season.  The recruitment process started as soon as the January window closed in terms of identifying key players in the positions that we want to strengthen and/or add options.

"We feel he is a player that can excite our fans and comes to us at a crucial period in his career at an excellent age, with a huge desire to be successful.

"We are working hard to do good, early business and are confident that David will be the first of several additions to improve the squad."
