CAMBRIDGE UNITED ANNOUNCE #FOOTBALLFAMILYDAY FOR SHAUN WHITER AND JOEY ABBS
Cambridge United, in association with Cambridgeshire FA, and in conjunction with four local Football Clubs, will host a #FootballFamilyDay fundraising event on Sunday 9th October with all proceeds for Shaun Whiter and Joey Abbs.Everyone within the local football community have been shocked by the terrible event and injuries suffered by Shaun and Joey. The outpouring of goodwill and support, both locally and nationally, resulting in a fantastic amount of money already being raised has been hugely appreciated by Shaun and Joey. However, with the life changing injuries sustained by Shaun, more funds are needed for the adaptations to his house and the prosthetic limbs he needs.
The #FootballFamilyDay is an opportunity for everyone, within the local community and local football family, to come together in a huge show of strength, unity and support for these two local footballers. It is also the opportunity for us to all raise a huge amount of money for Shaun and Joey.
Newmarket Town, Cambridge City, Soham Town Rangers and Fulbourn Institute will each play in an eleven-a-side tournament as the main event of the day. There will also be a number of other activities so that we can create a real family atmosphere and ensure that everyone attending enjoys the day.
Cambridge United CEO Jez George commented: “The four Clubs providing players for the #FootballFamilyDay are pivotal in both Shaun and Joey’s involvement in local football.
“The day provides the chance for local players, past and present, to join together in support of two brilliant young men, who through no fault of their own, now need to cope with the consequences of such a traumatic event.”
Jez continued: “We want to get as many people inside the stadium as possible to raise a huge amount of money for Shaun and Joey. Just as importantly, we want to harness the groundswell of support with a really public demonstration of support and solidarity.
“The capacity of the Cambs Glass Stadium is 8,000 and the only time in recent years that we’ve had a ‘full house’ came in the FA Cup tie with Manchester United. This event is even more important and we urge all of our supporters to unite with all local football supporters in getting behind the day. Let’s fill the stadium and really make a difference for Shaun and Joey.
“We’ve spoken to Shaun and Joey throughout the process of organising the date to ensure they can both attend, and so that we have sufficient time to sell the maximum number of tickets possible.

Jez also explained why tickets were not immediately available: “In order to be respectful of Newmarket Town’s fixture against an Ipswich Town XI on Sunday, one of many fundraising events already organised, we will wait until next week to announce ticket prices and further details.”
