: CAMBRIDGE UNITED 3-0 SOUTHPORT
: Off goes Gash, don't think he'll be participating in the last minute of added time. Poku very lucky/reckless, hope that's not a bad injury for Gash, who's been great tonight. There goes the final whistle, United comfortable victors in the end, Jez George will be very pleased with a second successive win and clean at the R Costings Abbey Stadium, though injuries to Wylde and Gash will be a worry.
: Gash completely taken out by Poku there, suspect if Poku wasn't already on a booking that would've been a free kick and a yellow card. Gash still down, will need treatment.
: Southport seeking a consolation here and they have a corner, but United clear it and as Jennings nutmegs Poku twice he's brought down, free kick
: Jennings slaloms into the box, trying to recreate his goal at Braintree, but McMillan paws the ball over the bar. Corner is low to the near post, it's worked out to Roberts then Coulson on the right, but the low cross from Josh is grabbed by McMillan. Four minutes to be added.
: Gashington named man of the match by match sponsors Kershaw.
: Tonight's attendance 1,840, 48 away fans who won't be relishing their long, probably point-less, trip home.
: Brown goes down the left and cuts infield before hitting a shot that curls away from goal, Naisbitt was stretching. Final sub for United is the Thorpedo, on in place of Harrison Dunk.
: Berry peels away to meet a Coulson long ball before feeding Dunk, his cross is low and just cut out before it reaches Gash. Dunk again now surges into the box but goes for goal and that's easy for McMillan.
CAMBRIDGE UNITED 3-0 SOUTHPORT. United pressing and pressing until they win the ball back with Jarvis. Worked wide to Jennings, and his hanging cross is perfect for Micheal Gash to nod in at the back post.
20.58: Yellow card.
Great ball from Carew over the top gives Gash a sight of goal, but off balance he can only poke a shot at McMillan. United have a free kick now though, Poku's handball and subsequent moaning earn him a booking. Jennings kick is grasped by McMillan.
: Now United's turn to make a change, Rossi Jarvis on for Adam Marriott
. After a great first half Marriott's influence has faded, good run out for the striker though. Berry will push on into the hole with Rossi suring things up in the middle.
20.54: Yellow card
. Berry, stretching, looked to have won the ball there against Poku, but it's a free kick Southport and a booking. To be expected I suppose after the sending off. Whalley lines this up, bends it in to the far post, Gash heads clear and there's a foul on Shaw so United can clear.
: Wicked free kick from Jennings, Coulson gets a flick and the keeper makes a great save to parry. Final change for Southport, Benjamin coming on, Lever on his way.
: Apparently the Southport player kicked the floor as he tumbled under challenge from Dunk, so shouldn't have been a free kick or penalty. Don't feel too hard done by Sandgrounders.
20.48: RED CARD
. Nasty stuff from Alan Moogan, who flies in studs showing on Dunk and gets a red card. Southport must feel like the world's against them at the moment. Naisbitt's also been booked, presumably for mouthing off as he went charging in to get involved
: Free kick low into Gray, who moves it on to Brown but shoots straight at Naisbitt, phew.
: Trickery from Whalley gets him past Dunk, who brings him down. The ref points to the spot but the linesman says outside the box. After a long discussion the outcome is a free kick! Let off for United if they can defend this.
: Southport making a change, Jon Brown coming on for Parry. Whalley will go wide right for the visitors now, Brown on the left.
: Good work from Dunk and Gash working the ball to Jennings, his cross appears to hit an arm and go behind, Akrigg with the block I think. Referee unmoved. Corner causes mild chaos in the box, Roberts picks it up at the far post and hoist's it back in, but Gash's shot is into the ground and kicked away.
: Free kick Southport half-way inside United territory, it's half away, then Lever comes forward and tries his luck but the shot flies harmlessly wide.
: Hudson's first touch it to volley the ball clear, and moments later he does well to shepherd the ball into touch for a goal-kick with Gray in close attention.
: Team's are back, and United are having to make a change, Blaine Hudson replacing Michael Wylde, whose on-going groin injury has forced him off. Big challenge for Blaine against very physical opposition.
: Cambridge United 2-0 Southport
: Southport long throw into the box, that's into the near post and behind. Ref gives a corner, looked like a goal kick to me and most of the players I think. In goes the flag kick, Naisbitt punches, and the half-time whistle goes. Very satisfactory half from the U's, Southport have hit the post but United could conceivably have had four or five. It's a very open match and you suspect it will only become more so after half-time as legs tire.
: Two minutes to be added and Southport have a corner. Whalley with it low towards Owens I think, but whoever it is can;t get their shot on target and it's behind for a corner. This time it's into the six yard box, Naisbitt punches clear and Dunk will bring it away.
: Hopkins infuriates the Habbin by over-ruling the assistant ref and giving a throw to Southport. But they turn it over and Dunk can break through the middle, but the lanky Akrigg gets back at him as he's about to pull the trigger and makes a crucial interception.
20.12: Yellow card
. Carew, just back from suspension, goes into the book for tugging back his man inside Southport territory. Strange decision that, looked a nothing foul, but the referee is our old friend John Hopkins so that probably explains it.
: Shaw goes for goal from distance, it's deflected and goes just wide! Keeper was completely wrong-footed there. Corner cleared out to Carew, who works it back into Dunk. Lovely skills from Dunk, tricks his way through, but his toe poke trickles across the six yard box without a United player there to make the crucial contact.
: Goal has settled United, Southport will be gutted they're 2-0 down here.
: That was Robbo's first goal for the club I think, Shaw into the box now onto Marriott's pass, but McMillan is equal to his shot, pawing it away and Southport clear.
CAMBRIDGE UNITED 2-0 SOUTHPORT. Dunk into the box now, shot deflected behind. Low corner from Marriott, Dunk gets a flick and Kevin Roberts slots it in at the far post! Amazing stuff, United two up.
: Bosh, Southport hit the woodwork again, Parry lobs the ball over Jennings and delivers a low cross for Moogan, who makes a bit of room but cracks his shot against the post from ten yards. United need to regain control of this match, that was another let-off.
: Berry with a typical lung-busting run forward to meet Roberts long ball. Gash collects his knock down but can only trundle a shot into the keeper's arms.
: Mistake from Wylde as he misses his kick giving Gray a sight of goal. But the angle was narrow and he could only shot into the side netting. Would've been tough to score from there.
: First corner is short from Marriott and Southport block it behind, second one is longer, Coulson sees one effort blocked before he scuffs a second effort behind.
: Crikey, Whalley leaves Roberts with twisted blood, turning him inside and out before cutting the ball back to Moogan whose shot is deflected over. Corner is another poor one and United break, Marriott with a cross field ball to Carew, who just keeps it in and sees his cross put behind, U's corner now.
: Good save Danny Naisbitt, cross headed away as far as Poku, whose volley is on target but the keeper tips it onto the inside of the post.
: Early change now for Southport, Akrigg on for Earl Davis. Bit of a blow for them, Akrigg is only just back from injury himself.
: Moogan's corner is low and hooked clear by Carew. 19.42: Quick break involving Jennings, Gash, then Jennings again, but his cross is headed clear before it reaches Marriott. United still have it until Berry gives the ball away and Whalley surges forward, feeding Parry whose shot is deflected over by Wylde. Southport corner.
: Marriott loves the Premier Sports cameras, scored a free kick in a televised game against Kidderminster last year too. Southport have a free kick now, Whalley tries to whip it into the far post but Parry can't connect and it's behind for a goal kick.
CAMBRIDGE UNITED 1-0 SOUTHPORT. Lovely move and United are ahead. Dunk and Gash work the ball wide to Jennings, and his low cross is sidefooted home by that man Adam Marriott
: Gah, ball runs to Jennings a little fortunately, he digs a cross out, Carew and Gash between them nod it back and Marriott's hooked shot is well saved by McMillan, the ball trickling away before a Southport man clears.
: Berry does well to keep the ball in at the byline and flick it back, but Carew can't profit. Here's Carew again though, but he is crowded out and Southport have the throw
: Long free kick into the box dealt with reasonably well by United, who clear. Poku down receiving treatment now, think he got a whack in the face.
: Teams are out, To quote the Vaccines, Southport are all in white, United in the normal amber and black. U's to kick off attacking the South Stand.
: This match live on Premier Sports TV, whose presence is, as ever, low key. They are responsible for the earlier than usual 7.30pm kick-off, the players should be along in a minute.
: Last time Southport visited us, in August 2010, the match ended goalless. I seem to recall it was particularly dreadful, though as with most of last season I've tried to erase it from my memory. Our visitors have of course turned things round magnificently since then, hard to believe they are challenging for the play-offs given their resources.
Cambridge United: Naisbitt, Roberts, Jennings, Coulson, Wylde (Hudson 45), Carew, Dunk (Thorpe 82), Shaw, Berry, Marriott (Jarvis 66), Gash. Subs: Thorpe, Hudson, Patrick, Hughes, Jarvis.
Southport: McMillan, Lever (Benjamin 64), Davis (Akrigg 16), Grand, Smith, Owens, Moogan, Parry (Brown 54), Poku, Whalley, Gray. Subs: Akrigg, Brown, Neemes, Carden, Benjamin.
19.07: TEAM NEWS
. One expected change for United, as Ashley Carew returns in place of Jonathon Thorpe, who drops to the bench. Ryan Charles is left out of the squad all-together, and despite the stories today there are no new faces in U's 16. Southport look set to play with five at the back, and are without injured midfielder Karl Ledsham. Godfrey Poku plays what could be his last match for the club as his loan spell from Luton ends tomorrow.
: Good evening and welcome to the R Costings Abbey Stadium for tonight's match against Southport. Both teams are looking to bounce back after their New Years Day defeats, who will come off best tonight?
