Cambridge United 0 - 1 Tamworth

FULL TIME: CAMBRIDGE UNITED 0-1 TAMWORTH

16.55: Oh dear oh dear oh dear, ball over the top finds Dunk in space, he surely must score but as he blasts the ball goalwards Hedge saves with his body. That's literally the last kick of the game, the whistle goes and Tamworth have a deserved victory. United not at the races today, Jez George will not be a happy man.

16.53: Ball in from Hughes, Gash climbs at the far post but Hedge gets a hand to his header, pushes it onto the inside of the post, and it's cleared as Shaw tries to follow in.

16.51: Hedge comes, and doesn't get a cross from the right, the ball is helped back to Berry, who tries to curl the ball over the keeper, who gets a hand to it to push the ball up in the air, then gets the inevitable free kick as Gash challenges.

16.49: A minute to go and United. The big guns are up but won't get a chance to get near this as Gash heads Thorpe's cross straight behind. This has been abject from United, who have four minutes of stoppage time to salvage something.

16.42: Yellow card. First booking of the afternoon coming up here as Thorpe climbs late and catches Barrow. That was late but not especially malicious, so a booking is probably fair. Tamworth taking their time with this free kick, and while they do so Hughes comes on for Johnson, United going 3-4-3 for the last seven minutes.

16.36: Good strength from Gash, who finds Thorpe, his cut back finds Jennings but his shot takes a deflection and loops away. Corner is better from Thorpe, Hudson's header on target but Hedge makes a stretching save.

16.32: United force two corners in quick succession. First is poor again from Thorpe, the second is, er, poor again from Thorpe and whacked away at the near post. United have a free kick now though wide on the right, Pugh fouled, good position for Jennings to deliver but it's headed clear.

16.28: Better, Gash chests down to Shaw, whose goalbound shot is tipped round the post by Hedge. Corner is low and cleared.

16.27: Corner is poor from Dunk, but Carew retrieves it and finds Gash, who zips a shot across goal and wide. Another change now for the U's, Carew, who hasn't had his best game, is off, Thorpe on.

16.26: Berry works it across to Dunk, who fizzes in a cross which just eludes Gash in the centre. That's better, the crowd wakes up and pressure from Gash forces a corner off Barrow.

16.24: Difficult to see Pugh having an effect on the match unless the nine players behind him and Gash improve drastically. 25 minutes left.

16.20: Jez George decides to make a change, and it's the new signing, Andy Pugh, on in place of Jarvis. Pugh goes up top with Gash as Berry drops into a deeper position.

16.16: Corner is punched clear by Hedge and Tamworth can break. United are very open through the middle and it's move on by Green to Isaac who shoots disappointingly wide.

16.15: United still looking very out of sorts, Patterson wriggles free in the box but blasts wide. Now Dunk has some space to run into and forces the corner down near the byline.

16.11: GOAL CAMBRIDGE UNITED 0-1 TAMWORTH. That's been coming, Liam McDonald gets a favourable bounce just outside the box and hammers in a shot which takes the slightest of deflections off Hudson, which is enough to send it looping over Naisbitt and into the net.

16.08: Today's attendance is 2,281, with 83 away fans.

16.05: We're underway again here at the R Costings Abbey Stadium, United kick off but a short backpass from Hudson puts Naisbitt under pressure and he has to hack the ball to safety with McDonald closing in.

HALF TIME: Cambridge United 0-0 Tamworth

15.48: There goes the whistle, scoreless at the break. United started well, but didn't press home their early advantage, and subsequently Tamworth have passed up the two best chances. All to play for after half-time.

15.45: Shaw rams the ball into the net after the keeper had spilled a cross under pressure from Jarvis. Sadly Hedge had already been awarded a sympathy free kick. not that his half-hearted attempt to beat Jarvis to the ball deserved it.

15.43: Another corner for Tamworth now as Johnson heads behind. That's in low and away by Jennings. The visitors ending the half on top then, United have failed to capitalise on a good start and the match has been pretty poor to be honest.

15.39: Tamworth corner, Dunk blcoks off Gudger near the byline. Over it comes Oji gets a header on target and Naisbitt has to make a super save, tipping the ball over the bar. Second corner is, to quote Mark Johnson sitting next to me, muddled away.

15.33: Ball over the top still looks United's best tactic, this time Jennings put Gash in and Oji, struggling to keep up, puts it behind. Corner is headed away as far as Carew who lashes a shot high and wide.

15.30: Green gets a talking to after a late challenge on Berry, Tamworth not afraid to concede the odd free kick. And indeed there's no danger here as Gash tries to head it down to Dunk but only succeeds in heading behind, goal kick.

15.27: Again Patterson making a nuisance of himself, gets in down the left, and though the angle is tight he gets a shot on target which Naisbitt has to save, then gather in at the second attempt.

15.24: United work it patiently down the right to Carew, who delays and delays and delays his cross before feeding in low to Berry, who can't quite control and the chance is gone. At the other end Patterson beats Johnson down by the touchline but cross is completely miskicked by McDonald in the centre.

15.18: This time Jennings is tugged back by Francis for another free kick in a similar position. This time Jarvis takes, it's low and whacked away.

15.15: Dunk is fouled on the touchline by Courtney, giving Jennings the chance to swing a free kick in. But it flicks off Dunk's head and is caught by Hedge.

15.10: Good ball from Gash finds Dunk in space, he's blocked but it comes back to Jennings, low shot charged down and the ball spins up. As Jennings tries to win the header he's held down by Mckoy, free kick, 25 yards or so out, left of centre. Carew curls it, over the wall but comfortable for Hedge who fields the ball easily.

15.07: Berry's pass inside looking for Carew is put behind after good work from Dunk had found him in space in the area. Over comes the corner and Berry gets free but glances his header wide of the far post. It was coming at pace but that was a great run and he'll probably feel he should've hit the target.

15.04: Tamworth look succeptible to the ball over the top in the early stages, Berry almost catches Oji out, and from his hurried clearance Shaw breaks into the box but his shot is blocked by a defender.

15.02: We're off, Tamworth get things underway attacking the NRE.

14.58: Teams are coming out, Tamworth in red and white, United in the standard amber and black.

14.53: Last season this fixture ended 3-3, Robbie Willmott, Jordan Patrick and Adam Marriott getting the U's goals as fought back from 3-0 down. Safe to say none of those will be on the score-sheet today.

Cambridge United: Naisbitt, Roberts, Jennings, Hudson, Johnson, Carew (Thorpe 68), Dunk, Jarvis (Pugh 60), Shaw, Berry, Gash. Subs: McAuley, Thorpe, Eades, Hughes, Pugh.

Tamworth: Hedge, Courtney, Barrow, Francis, Green, Isaac, Gudger, Mckoy, Oji, McDonald, Patterson. Subs: Reynolds, Shariff, Wallen, Belford, Headley.

14.40: TEAM NEWS. There's an immediate debut for AFC Wimbledon loanee Brett Johnson, who replaces the injured Josh Coulson in United's only change. New striker Andy Pugh is on the bench, no place in the squad for Adam Marriott. Tamworth will probably line up in a 4-4-2 formation, with former LA Galaxy striker Marlon Patterson up front with Liam McDonald just behind.

14.30: Hello and welcome to the R Costings Abbey Stadium for Cambridge United against Tamworth. With two new-boys in the squad United will looking to make it back-to-back Blue Square Bet Premier victories when they take on the Lambs.
